Venice Marathon 2009 From the magic and the glitz of the Riviera Fiorita, these places come alive in an exciting 'race in history': this is the Venice Marathon, much more than just a sporting competition, this year scheduled for the 25th October. The Venice Marathon has one of the most spectacular courses in the world, departing from Stra and arriving in Venice in Riva Sette Martiri.
The first twenty kilometres of the course are situated in the Riviera del Brenta and along the canal. The landscape is typical of the countryside, rich in vegetation and characterized by numerous eighteenth-century villas. The marathon then crosses the town of Marghera and Mestre and reaches Venice via the Ponte della Libertà (a straight of almost 4 kilometres). The race continues through the port of Venice, and enters the city centre for the last few kilometres, quite unique. The first stretch is on the Fondamenta delle Zattere, along the Canale della Giudecca. Then, arriving at Punta della Dogana, the athletes cross the Grand Canal over a floating bridge (160 m long and specially fitted out for the race), skirting the Piazza San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale before reaching the finishing line at Riva Sette Martiri, in a panoramic position on the lagoon.

FESTIVAL GALUPPI 2009: I LUOGHI DI BALDASSARE from 13 september to 24 october. The association of music and place-of-origin is the keynote of the 'Galuppi Festival', now in its15th Edition, and better than ever.
The noted musician known as Il Buranello, (from Burano, his birthplace) greatly contributed to the development of the Venetian School and influenced central Mitteleuropean music, way and beyond his fame as 'father of comic opera'. That his work has been revived and presented to the public in an appealingly fresh and original way is thanks to the Galuppi Festival Association and its Artistic Director Alessio Benedettelli.
This year's edition focuses on two main themes: the celebrations for the centenaries of Purcell, Händel, Haydn and Mendelssohn; on the other hand, a rich programme of Galuppi's music.
The section 'Fondaci', started in 2007 with the aim of exploring foreign music traditions, will focus on discovering Turkish music with a concert of Ottoman music . Among the new places to be explored, the Sanctuary of the Madonna dell’Apparizione on the island of Pellestrina, with a concert by Duo Giovanni Guglielmo (violin) and Ezio Mabilia (harpsychord). The Hotel Ausonia & Hungaria on Lido di Venezia, will host a concert with music form the Thirties, dedicated to the Liberty style 'years
